Tracing Complex Contours for Fusion360

A central concept to my work is a relationship between natural complexity and simplified logic. I see some of this in the process of digitizing a complex organic cross-section into simplified vectors for CNC fabrication.  This is done by using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Autodesk Fusion360 as demonstrated in the video below:

Numerical Control – Workflow Overview

My Numerical Control series requires a multitude of processes (slipcasting, lapidary work, Photoshop, Illustrator, Autodesk Fusion360, CNC Milled Aluminum, CNC water-jet cutting, powder coating).  This video is a general overview of how and why these processes are used. I plan on going into further detail for each process in the future, but in the meantime please feel free to contact…

CNC Laser Cutting and Engraving Basics

When I arrived at Arizona State University for Graduate school, the first digital process I experimented with was laser cutting & engraving. It’s a 2D operation and very easy for someone with only  minimal digital skills. This post is just a brief overview of the process of laser cutting as I’ve applied it to art, since there are hundreds of more detailed…
